Julia’s House receives a boost from local building company Greendale Construction
After watching a feature on BBC TV by chief executive of Julia’s House, Martin Edwards regarding cuts to their service, local Chartered Building Company Greendale Construction Limited felt compelled to do something to help.
During their annual company’s Christmas Dinner and dance they held a charity auction and raffle raising £1,017.00 for Julia’s House. All prizes were donated by their supply chain and past and present clients. This meant that every penny raised was able to be given to this very worthy charity. Prizes ranged from a Wii fit, hotel stays, rounds of golf, magnums of champagne, digital cameras and many other items.
Maria Seabright stated it is important for local companies to support their local charities in these hard economic times. “It was our intention to raise enough money to fund a carer at Julia’s House for a whole week. With the generosity of our employees, suppliers and clients we have exceeded this. We are exceptionally proud to have raised so much money for this very worthy cause.
Julia’s House currently employ 40 carers to help the children both in their own homes and in the hospice. The carers have a range of skills which include first aid and emergency resuscitation, and above all they are on hand to provide caring companions for the children, looking after them regularly so that the parents can take a break and spend time with each other or with their other children. This benefits the whole family and helps relieve the considerable daily stress of living with a child with a complex and very serious illness.
Martin Edwards, Chief Executive of Julia’s House states ‘I am particularly pleased that Greendale, who built our beautiful children’s hospice building a few years ago, still support us now. This recent boost will help us to provide skilled and loving care to very ill children in Dorset.’
