Contributing to the success of artists of the future
Poole based building firm Greendale Construction are contributing to the success of artists of the future with the construction of new buildings and refurbishment works at the Arts Institute in Wallisdown, Bournemouth.
The chartered building company have won a £1+million contract to create a new “northlight” studio and link pods for students at the Institute. They are also carrying out various alterations to existing buildings to accommodate the new in take of students and art courses being run.
The studio section of the project is particularly important as natural light from north-facing windows is seen as being the most consistent with the least colour bias, making it ideal for artists to work in.
Greendale has already started work on the project which is due to end in October and will be used by students on the Institute’s fine art and other courses.
Chris Kane, director of Greendale Construction says: “Creating the perfect working environment for highly detailed artistic work is a challenge and we feel pleased to have been asked to take on such prestigious work.”
Established in 1885, the Arts Institute at Bournemouth is an award-winning specialist institution with a reputation for excellence, offering a diverse range of subjects in arts, design and media, including costume, film production, graphic design and photography.
Principal Stuart Bartholomew commented: “The provision of an additional northlight studio will further strengthen the excellent specialist facilities we are able to offer our undergraduate and postgraduate students. We are very much looking forward to opening this new studio.”
