Greendale Construction announced as the regional winners for their work on The Poole Museum
Poole based Greendale Construction have been announced as the regional winners of a prestigious building competition after impressing judges with the high standard and visual appeal of their work.
The award has been made for the company’s work building an extension and refurbishing ‘The Poole Museum’ known previously as the Waterfront Museum, just off Poole Quay.
Greendale Construction Ltd beat hundreds of other firms to claim the South of England’s Best Commercial Build prize and will now go through to compete in the national Master Builder of the Year Awards. The winners of the national Awards will be announced by property developer and TV presenter Sarah Beeny at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on Thursday 8th November.
‘The Poole Museum,’ officially reopened its doors to the public in July this year following the £1.3 million project. Works carried out by Greendale during the twenty one month refurbishment period, when the museum was closed, included construction of a steel framed glass entrance atrium, and an observation terrace offering views over Poole Harbour and the Old Town. The new entrance creates a welcoming space and shows off the historic warehouse building where the main artefacts are displayed including Poole’s 2,300 year old Iron Age log boat. The warehouse building was stripped out to it original functional state and local quarried Purbeck stone has been use as floor covering to the main atrium.
Rob Hooker, Director of Greendale Construction says: “We are delighted to have had our work recognised at this level, especially in connection with such a worthwhile project which is proving to be a real asset to Poole residents and visitors. We are excited about going through to the next stage of the competition. The Greendale team view this as a major success for our company and for The Poole Museum.”
John Turner, director of FMB Southern region said: “The Master Builder of the Year Awards give customers a chance to thank their builder for a job well done. There are plenty of great builders out there, but all too often we only hear of stories where things have gone wrong. The reality is that the majority of builders are hardworking, friendly and extremely skilled craftsmen, so we want to reward these companies and prove that building work in the South of England surpasses the rest.
“Greendale Construction Ltd has done a fantastic job to win the Southern region award, and we wish them well in the national competition.”
Michael Spender, Museum Manager, Borough of Poole, said: “This is brilliant news, for Greendale Construction and for the museum itself as it is confirmation of the high standard and visual impact of the work that has been carried out. We are getting a great response from visitors and it is good to know that the building industry feel likewise.”
