Back to the future for Avonbourne School!
May 2008
Pupils will come back to the future this September when they return to Avonbourne School in Bournemouth after their summer break this year.
Work to build a new Creative technology block was recently started by Poole based builders Greendale Construction at the Harewood Avenue school.
The new block will showcase the very best of technology with a virtual reality studio, video conferencing centre, lap top suite, projection room, new offices and a lobby leading into the school. The high tech building is also being constructed in a futuristic style which includes a zinc roof and metal cladding.
The 32 week project is set to be completed by August 2008 ready for the September start of term and has a build cost £763,313 the work is being funded by Bournemouth Borough Council
This is the third phase of work Greendale will have completed at Avonbourne - in 1998 the firm constructed a dance studio and changing rooms and in 2004 built a drama room extension at the all girl school which is now known as Business and Enterprise College and currently has around 1,000 pupils aged 11-16.
Head teacher Debbie Godfrey-Phaure said: “Our goal at Avonbourne is to prepare our students to be the next generation of employees and entrepreneurs for the local, national and international economy and with technology so much a part of everyday working life we know our new facilities will be a huge benefit towards this.”
Greendale Construction director Rob Hooker adds: “We are delighted to return to Avonbourne to start work on such an exciting project which will house such “cutting edge” modern technology facilities.”
