Greendale set to complete Refurbishment Project at Highcliffe Castle
April 2008
Poole based Greendale Construction are about to complete work on a prestigious Grade 1 listed building which will allow visitors to see parts never previously opened to the public.
Highcliffe Castle, based near Christchurch in Dorset, is a tourist attraction in its own right as well as being a highly sought after venue for upmarket weddings, receptions and other events.
The 6th and latest phase of a £1.2million project to repair, renovate and develop the Castle is expected to be completed at the end of March 2008 and is the first significant change made to the building in a decade.
As a result of the restoration and repair work an estimated 55,000 visitors this year will be able to access parts of Highcliffe Castle which were previously off limits, including the state dining room, butler’s pantry and the East Tower. Other changes include improvements to the Great Hall, food preparation area, and bar.
Originally built in the 1830’s by Lord Stuart de Rothesay using materials salvaged from French Medieval buildings, Highcliffe Castle has been described as "the most important remaining example of the Romantic and Picturesque style of architecture." Greendale have taken the utmost care to ensure all the work is in sympathy with the original architecture and great attention has been paid to detail.
States Rob Hooker of Greendale Construction, “We were delighted to be entrusted with carrying out major refurbishment work to such a prestigious and historic building and are fully confident that visitors, the community and local tourism industry will benefit as a result of the changes made. As an already stunning location for celebrations we feel it will prove to be even more sought after as a venue in future.”
Greendale are already well known for their quality work and high level of service provided to the commercial sector, education, local authority, and a number of private clients.
