Cheers for the Contract!
March 2008
Poole based construction firm Greendale Construction are raising a glass to toast their success at being awarded the contract for a prestigious new hotel.
The Hotel du Vin is coming to Poole, on the site of the former Mansion House Hotel, adding another feather in the cap of the stylish chain which started up in 1994 and currently boasts ten properties across the UK (and is also part of Malmaison).
Greendale Construction have been appointed the building contractors for the project and have already started work on the Thames Street Grade II listed building which is due to be completed at the end of the summer 2008 and is bound to cause huge interest in Dorset.
Additional bedrooms, an al fresco dining area and two garden extensions are included in the multi million pound refurbishment, all of which is in keeping with its Grade II listed building status, to transform the Georgian Townhouse whilst being sympathetic to the original architecture.
Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac a stone’s throw from the Quay, the building was Poole’s original mayoral house, dating back to the 1780s when it was built for a leading merchant family.
The Hotel du Vin are known for their elegant, unpretentious and relaxed hotels, with signature French-style bistros with modern edge, unsurpassed wine cellars and other touches such as eclectic furnishings; Egyptian linen; and handsprung mattresses.
The Poole hotel is one of four new hotels the chain are set to open in different UK locations, including York, Edinburgh and Newcastle (not forgetting Poole) and will add to their stable of hotels already located in Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Cambridge, Cheltenham, Glasgow, Harrogate, Henley on Thames, Tunbridge Wells, Winchester and York.
Greendale Construction Director Chris Kane says: “The Hotel du Vin chain is well known for having great style and I am sure the new hotel will be a huge asset to Poole. We are delighted to have been chosen to help enhance such an historic building and to work with the Hotel Du Vin on this prestigious project.”
