Greendale renovation, Shire Hall, wins Dorset Echo Award!

We are absolutely thrilled for Shire Hall who have won the Dorset Echo Award in the best business development or innovative idea category!

Greendale helped transform Dorchester’s Shire Hall into the an educational, multimedia experience, which now takes visitors on an historical journey with some of Dorset’s most notorious and iconic characters and events.

Funded in part with a £1.5 million Heritage Lottery Grant match funded by West Dorset District Council, the Grade 1 listed building, which dates back to 1757, went through a very complex 73 weeks of renovations starting in October 2016.

As  result of the renovation, Shire Hall is now more equipped to welcome visitors requiring assistance thanks to the installation of a lift which serves all public access floors. Additionally, the old stairs to the dock have been carefully strengthened, and existing doors widened for wheelchair access.  Stairs to the basement cell area have also been made accessible for all via the installation of a powered ‘flexistep’ lift.

Rob Hooker, director at Greendale Construction, said: “Congratulations to everyone at Shire Hall on this amazing award.  As main contractors, the whole Greendale team felt honoured to be working on such an iconic and historic building, and making a positive difference for its long-term future. The success of the project was down to collaborative working of all involved, and we wish Shire Hall Courthouse Museum every success so as future generations can visit and experience its rich history.”

Greendale announced as finalists for the South West Built Environment Awards 2018

We are delighted to announce Greendale has been shortlisted for the South West Built Environment Awards in the category of SME of the Year 2018.

Returning for the 11th consecutive year, the awards reward the very best in the South West built environment, and will take place at Ashton Gate Stadium, Bristol  on 22 June 2018.

The awards are recognised as being in a class of their own; celebrating best practice combined with great entertainment and an effective platform for networking.  Having gained traction over the previous decade, the awards have continued to grow year on year, and the 2018 awards are set to be the biggest event yet, with over 500 industry figures in attendance.

We are particularly pleased to have recognised as a contender for SME of the Year, as an important ethos of Greendale Construction, is that our staff are our biggest and greatest asset.  In this respect, we believe we stand out from the crowd through our amazing work force.   We have very little movement of labour, and encourage and promote from within, so all can reach their full potential.   We train at all levels –  from school work experience placements, apprenticeship schemes, graduate professional qualifications and specialist sectors.

So many other organisations are involved in Greendale’s success as a business, and we would not be where we are today without our great relationships with architects, structural engineers, web site providers, accountants, quantity surveyors, contract administrators, health and safety advisors, PR providers, and other outside agencies such as Bournemouth Property Association and the Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
