Actor Timothy West CBE officially opens Swanage Pier and Marine Villas

Actor and Honorary Patron of National Pier Society, Timothy West CBE, officially opened Swanage Pier and Marine Villas at an event attended by Greendale director, Rob Hooker.

Rob said: “It was a great event with Tim West cutting the ribbon on the pier, a string quartet played and lovely food and drinks provided by the Swanage pier cafe.I

“I wasn’t lucky enough to have a good chat with Tim whilst we queued for the buffet. As well as being an Honorary Patron of the National Pier Society, and of course a well known and loved actor, Tim is a very keen historian and into boating and paddle steamers – the Waveley still docks at Swanage Pier. Many will have recently seen his programmes on canal boating with his wife, Prunella Scales.

“There was a lot of very positive talk amongst guests about the Marine Villas, which Greendale are immensely proud to have been involved with; restoring dilapidated old Grade II listed building back to its former Georgian glory, with a new exhibition space, shop, and café with a stunning glass extension.”

Greendale’s Stuart Harrison completes the London Marathon smashing his fundraising target for Diverse Abilities!

Huge congrats to our site manager, Stuart, for completing the London Marathon on Sunday in 4hr 28mins! Thanks to everyone’s generosity he smashed his fundraising target and has raised £2070 for Langside School, trough Diverse Abilities.

This is a huge achievement and in Stu’s own words, training was tough, but through his dedication and the donations raised, the money will go to Greendale’s chosen charity, Langside Side. Examples of just how much it costs to provide the necessary and caring services for the children and school are;

  • £35 funds an hour of hydrothrepy which aids development, prevents muscle deterioration and helps reduce pain.
  • £63 funds a days medical supplies.
  • £100 funds the entire nursing team for an hour! (3 nurses and 3 nursing assistants)

Stuart, said: “The day was fantastic and am honoured to have been part of this amazing experience. I want to say a MASSIVE thank you to all of those who donated and helped me exceed my £2000 target.

“I don’t have the words to describe the atmosphere this event has and you cannot help but be inspired by the measures some of the runners put themselves through in order to raise awareness and funds for all the various charities.

“Diverse Abilities is the only charity that supports children and adults with profound physical and learning disabilities in Dorset. We cannot change people’s disabilities but, with your help, we can make their lives fun and fulfilled, giving them a future they truly deserve.”
