Chestnut Nursery – Work in Progress

(Please scroll to the bottom to read in chronological order.  New updates to this project will be posted at the top of the blog as the build progresses).

Update: 19/11/18

As works progress, the underfloor, heated, power floated slab has been poured successfully.
We needed a window of dry and relatively warm weather to undertake this and started the pour on Tues 13th at 10.00am, with our fantastic concrete placement team not leaving the site until 6.30am the following day.

This is a very precise job involving catching the concrete set at the right time to power float the slab with specialist equipment (looks like an inverted helicopter!) Approx 60m3 of concrete was placed by pump from Ready-Mix lorries.
It’s great to get this critical item completed, and all is being protected now with hessian / poly and OSB to construct the Shop superstructure.

Update: 15/10/18

Things are moving well at Chestnut Nursery as the foundation concrete footing has been going in
and we’ve been preparing for the pour of the main underfloor heated slab for early November.

Chestnut Nursery – The start of a very exciting project for Greendale

01/10/18

We are delighted to get this fantastic and very worthwhile project underway for Chestnut Nursery in Poole, which will include an iconic new shop and improved nursery and grounds at the Kingland Road site.

The work carried out will include taking down dilapidated old buildings (above you can see the old greenhouses being demolished) and replacing them with a stunning new single storey shop which will sell a large variety of gardening items as well as offering improved learning opportunities for the volunteers working there.  Built using a combination of Purbeck gabion walling and chestnut cladding with timber glulam roof beams and metal roof deck.  The inside space will benefit from two, large elevated rooflights.  Automatic entrance/exit doors, and window/curtain walling will be installed using a combination of aluminium and wood framed glazing systems.  To help with green sustainability requirements an air source heat pump with electrical back-up will provide underfloor heating, keeping customers and volunteers warm during the colder months.

As you can see from the photo above, Chestnut Nursery is on a stunning site.

Behind the shop, there will be a further 743 square metres of retail hard standing and growing areas.  The new nursery will offer a more formal and cohesive experience for customers, and will provide a much-needed, safe and comfortable environment for volunteers working with the registered charity SWOP (Sheltered Work Opportunities Project) to work.

During the refurbishment, Chestnut will be operating a pop-up shop at 26 Kingland Crescent in Poole town centre where it will be selling a variety of plants and accessories, so please don’t forget to stop by!
